A civil partnership is a legal relationship registered between two people of the same sex. If you are a civil partner of a British Citizen or a person settled in the UK, you can apply for a UK Civil Partner visa to join or stay with your UK civil partner. You can form a civil partnership in England or Wales if you are 16 or over; not already married or in a civil partnership and not closely related. Same-sex couples can also convert a civil partnership into a marriage in England or Wales.

If you meet all the requirements of the rules including the English language and financial requirements, you can apply for a Civil Partner visa under the 5 years route. If for any reason you are not able to meet all the requirements and you have exceptional circumstances or any insurmountable obstacles preventing you to reintegrate into your country of origin, a leave may be granted under the 10-year route to a settlement instead.
